Geochemical Quantification and Appraisal of Three Genetically Different Derived Lateritic Soils

This study was carried out at Federal Polytechnic; Ado Ekiti in state on geochemical appraisal of three different genetically derived lateritic soils from south western Nigeria and their respective engineering performance 2019. Twelve (12) disturbed soil samples were collected granite (GDS), gneiss (GNS) migmatite (MGS) rock terrains. These four horizons 0.5m intervals, resulting into a maximum depth 2.0m for each the trial pits analysis. The results showed that characterized by high proportion SiO2, Al2O3 Fe2O3 with an average (SiO2 + Fe2O3) 94.8% trace amounts MnO, MgO, CaO, Na2O, P2O5, TiO2 K2O, indicating depletion degree. quantification laterization range 0.68 to 1.66%, Clayeness 0.37 0.53 %, Siliceousness 1.88 2.70%, Stabilization 34.30 56.57%, Bonding Strength 36.29 57.80%, Weathering Indices 84.42 96.44. GDS has highest Clayeyeness, bonding strength, stabilization, best lowest siliceousness properties, permeability, bearing capacity mechanical stability followed MGS GNS, respectively. result revealed are more suitable as mineral seal while GNS possesses preferred properties foundation fills.
